Today it’s my great pleasure to invite Val Penny back to my blog to discuss her latest book, Hunter’s Force, which is out this Sunday – 3rd March. I can’t wait to read this new book, as I’ve loved this series.

Over to you, Val…

I am so excited to be visiting Jo’s blog today. Jo Fenton is a remarkable author who is an incredible supporter of mine and of the whole writing community. She has invited me here today to discuss the third novel in my Edinburgh Crime Mystery series, Hunter’s Force which is published by Crooked Cat Books on 03.03.2019.

Hunter’s Force is set in 2013 after the introduction of Police Scotland which was formed by the unification of all the county police forces in Scotland. The unification of the county forces was not a universally popular move amongst the police themselves nor with the public at large. The novel revisits some themes from my previous novels including loyalty, power and family ties. However, one of the most important themes of Hunter’s Force is revenge. Revenge is defined as ‘the action of hurting or harming someone in return for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands’. Many violent crimes are justified by the perpetrators as being reasonable retribution for some wrong done by the victim to them or one of their loved ones.

So, in Hunter’s Force there are various crimes and acts of revenge that my protagonist DI Hunter Wilson has to contend with. Hunter has to prove he has the strength and energy to outwit the coercion of those who want revenge. That drive for revenge puts Hunter at risk when he is personally threatened with the use of violence when the hunter becomes the victim. It also proves fatal for one victim. It is certainly a challenging mystery for Hunter and I hope my readers will enjoy it.

About the book:

Hunter by name – Hunter by nature:

Can DI Hunter Wilson keep Edinburgh safe when he is the hunted?

DI Hunter Wilson is woken in the early hours of the morning by a call from his son, Cameron. Who has murdered the young student who shares Cameron’s flat? Why would anybody want to kill a young woman recently arrived in the city?

Now that the united police force, Police Scotland exists, Hunter must call in the new Major Incident Team (MIT) to lead the investigation. Hunter’s ability to investigate anything further is put in severe doubt when someone from his past decides to take revenge on him. He goes missing and his team have no idea where to look for him. Who would want to stop Hunter in his tracks?

Hunter’s team must work closely with MIT, with or without him, to solve the murder in this taut crime thriller.
