What a pleasure to introduce author, Jenna Maeson, on my blog today. Jenna has joined us to talk about the themes of her new book, Secrets Underground, as part of her book tour with Bittersweet Book Tours.
My latest release, Secrets Underground, is the third book in my Tails of Trouble series. Tails of Trouble follows our main character Olivia Morgan, as she returns to her small, quirky mountain town of Emerald Ridge. She gains a canine sidekick in Elmer, the golden retriever. The themes/tropes from this book are:
Amateur Sleuth – Olivia is definitely not a hardcore investigator of any kind. She’s just a girl who loves her community and righting wrongs. Her overwhelming curiosity about life draws her into many mysteries and Emerald Ridge has much for her to uncover. In Secrets Underground, she’s hoping for a quiet pet-sitting job at a gothic estate, sana mysteries, but the colored past of the property draws her into a mystery she didn’t see coming.
Animal Sidekick – Olivia’s canine sidekick, Elmer, the Golden Retriever is her full-time sleuthing buddy. Olivia’s ability to hear the thoughts of animals make for a fun interplay. And Elmer is a smart , curious dog, while not always stealthy. He protects Olivia at all cost but also helps her find and understand clues she might have missed without his animal intuition.
Small Town, Big Secrets – Emerald Ridge has a lot hidden within their small mountain community. The community is built around a core of long time locals, many who or whose families have been part of Emerald Ridge since its inception. The history of the quirky mountain town is buried deep within it’s mountains and valleys. Naturally those intwined with Emerald Ridge’s secrets don’t necessarily want them uncovered. Olivia’s strong drive to solve every mystery she is presented with makes keeping the big secrets under wraps difficult. Secrets Underground digs up the history of Emerald Ridge’s one time secret society – The Order of the Ridge – known for making powerful waves in the community during it’s heyday, but it also carries a storied past of smuggling antiques and bootlegging liquor.
Community – The cast of the Emerald Ridge books is a community of quirky long-time residents. They come together as a community for festivals, markets, and plenty of gossip at the local coffee shop, Perks and Peaks. While outside forces sometimes pit the community members against each other, in the end the community always pulls together to support each other in the end. The heirs of the Order come together in Secrets Underground to reveal the true nature of the order and set the story straight for the community.
Historical Mystery – A few of the books in this series touch on secrets tied to the history of Emerald Ridge. Secrets Underground does a deep-dive on the ins and outs of the secret society that once carried more control over the small town than many of the elected officials. The secret society was held together by many of the most powerful and influential residents in Emerald Ridge.

Jenna Maeson has been telling stories since before she could write words. She has always enjoyed the art of storytelling and all of the pieces that make a great story come to life. She believes everyone has a story to tell and every story has an audience waiting for it.
