Second Nature and Me – My Progress on the Diabetes Prevention Programme

Spread the love

4 weeks ago I started on a fabulous diabetes prevention programme called Second Nature. This was endorsed and paid for by the NHS, and I want to chart my progress here together with some of the wonderful things I’ve been learning.

This is the first time I’ve been on a healthy eating journey that I fully believed in. I’m still waiting for the weight loss to kick in, but there are a lot of barriers – menopause probably being the biggest, closely followed by taking medication which makes me more hungry.

However, I’m holding firm. This programme is all about changing habits for life, so if all I do is shift away from pre-diabetes and lower my insulin resistance, that will be a huge achievement.

Please feel free to click on the link to see how it works:

I will be posting regular updates, but for now, suffice to say, I’m eating more healthy foods, I’ve cut out chocolate, crisps, biscuits and cakes except for when I’m on a long hike (sustenance is sometimes required!) and I’ve cut out highly processed foods. I’m also moving more and even cooking more interesting meals.

Comments and questions are welcome. I’m looking forward to discussing this subject much more in weeks to come…

Those of you who have read my Becky White books will know that Becky enjoys her food – particularly pizza and chocolate biscuits. Perhaps in future books, she’ll be able to participate in a similar programme to this 🙂
